The First Grade Magistrate Margret Khobili yesterday sentenced 63-year-old former Neno Primary Education Advisor Benito Mpapa to 10 years imprisonment without hard labour for the offense of having sex with a child under the age of 18 years old.

The victim was a 16-year-old girl who was in form two at Chikonde Community Day Secondary School and was under the care of Mpapa's family.

Khobili in her sentence said that "I therefore find you guilty and sentence you to ten years to deter other would be offenders."

The sentence has also taken ages and being a first offender into consideration, hence, the leniency.

Mpapa was initially arrested last year in June over the matter.
