Trio Arrested Over K5m Missing at Mwanza Council

Police in Mwanza have arrested two employees in the ministry of health and a Standard bank teller for allegedly conniving and defrauding Mwanza district council about five million Kwacha.

Mwanza police public relations officer, Edwin Kaunda, says the three suspects allegedly used 10 forged cheques to commit the offense.

“The three defrauded the bank between September and October this year 2019, in the name of paying some suppliers,” says Kaunda.

Police have identified the trio as Hanna Gonani, 25, an accounts clerk at Mwanza district health office, John Jere, 29, former administrator at Mwanza district hospital and Ambele Mboma, 33, a bank teller with Standard Bank.

The three remain in police custody pending further investigation, Kaunda says.
