Man With Fake Facebook Account of Police IG Arrested

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man identified as Innocent Kananji for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account bearing the name and photo of the Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service Meryln Yolamu.

Deputy police publicist, Harry Namwaza has confirmed to Zodiak Online that the suspect has been arrested in Blantyre after instituting an investigation, by its cybercrime unit.

Namwaza, says Kananji was allegedly using the account to dupe unsuspecting job seekers money amounting to K150,000, on pretext that he would facilitate their recruitment in the Service.

In a related development; Police in Balaka have arrested a 39-year-old man, Peter Mtukumula for allegedly killing his 31-year-old girlfriend, identified as Ruth Matewuzo, who was a sex worker.

Balaka Police Station Public Relations Officer, Gladson M'bumpha says the suspect on Sunday night engaged quarreled with his girlfriend which led into a fight.

M’bumpha says that the suspect injured Matewuzo, who later died at Balaka District Hospital.
