Malawi has not officially registered any corona virus case so far.
However, all efforts are being put into place to ensure that there is no panic and that should a case be identified, the health care system should be ready to deal with it.
In the latest update briefing, the ministry of Health and Population says the latest on the list are travelers from Estonia, Malaysia and Portugal.
The original list included travelers from China, Italy, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Korea, Germany, France, Spain, United States of America, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Austria, Japan, Greece and Finland.
“The travelers will be followed up by a surveillance team for 14 days, in the event they develop any signs and symptoms they will be moved to an institutional isolation facility for treatment, otherwise, they will be released from quarantine on the 14th day assessment,” reads the latest briefing.
As of yesterday, South Africa had reported 61 confirmed cases of people infected with the virus. President Cyril Ramaphosa has since declared a national disaster in that country.
South African has imposed a travel ban on the high risk countries, banned gatherings of over 100 people, closed schools in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.
Over 6,500 people have died and over 162,000 have tested positive globally.
The latest closest confirmed case to Malawi is in neighboring Tanzania.
