Halt Operationalizing ATI - PRSM

Public Relations Society of Malawi has asked government to put on hold operationalizing the Access to Information Law on grounds that there are some areas that need rectifying.

PRSM President Lewis Msasa told yesterday there is a need for more consultations before the piece of legislation is gazetted.

Msasa notes that the issue of hiring and training information offices has not been included yet they are crucial in the operationalization of the law.

He argues that PRs are not information officers a development that will require organizations to restructure if government does not go back to the drawing board and discuss with relevant stakeholders.

But government spokesperson, information minister Gospel Kazako, says the process will not stop anymore as so many years have passed by while people pushed.

A few weeks ago, government announced that the law will be operational by 30 September, 2020.
