Ntcheu-Tsangano-Neno-Mwanza Road Project Stalls for Three Months

For a period of three months now, construction works for the 9.6 Billion Kwacha the first phase of 21 kilometers Ntcheu-Tsangano-Neno-Mwanza road has stopped due to alleged delays in funding.

While admitting this to Zodiak Online, Roads Authority (RA) Board Chairperson, Joel Ching’ani however referred us to Roads Fund Administration (RFA) as better placed to comment arguing RA are only implementing the works there.

"RA is there for implementation of the road construction project and anything regarding funding is done by RFA," said Ching'ani.

When contacted, RFA spokesperson, Masauko Mngwaluko said Treasury were in the right position to comment on the same, where its Spokesperson, Williams Banda referred us back to Roads Authority.

Meanwhile, some concerned casual workers at the construction site allege to have gone the same three months period without pay.

They claimed that nothing has worked to their advantage despite engaging top officials querying about the payment.

"Life is unbearable, we are failing to adequately support our families due to delays in getting our monthly payments in time," they complained.

The first phase of the road project which commenced in April 2018 covers a stretch of 21 kilometers from Tsangano Turn Off to Kambilonjo in Ntcheu.

So far, the Malawi Defense Force's, Engineers Battalion assigned to carry out the road project has only covered 8 kilometers with tarmac.
