Red Cross Donates Multipurpose Building; Blankets

The Malawi Red Cross has handed over a multi-purpose building to the people of Khotekhote village in the area of Senior Chief Khombedza in Salima.

Speaking during the handover of the building, president of the society Innocent Manila said the building will serve the community in many aspects such as health and education.

“We are also today donating 400 blankets to less privileged families from the area of Traditional Authority Kambwiri in the same district under the help of the Japanese Blankets for Africa Campaign,” he said.

On her part, a representative of the Swiss Red Cross Carole Hinden disclosed that the donation is worth K3.1 million.

“As Swiss Red Cross we are very committed to work with the Malawi Red Cross to improve the wellbeing of the needy in the country in any way we can,” she said.

According to Hinden, it is only right for the people to make good use of the donation and take good care of it.

Group Village Headman Kapuzira said with the absence of the building, women were attending antenatal clinics under a tree and would get drenched during the rainy season.

Kapuzira hailed the organization citing that the initiative will help the community as they used to travel long distances to have access to outpatient health care.

At least 15, 000 households will benefit from the Japanese Blankets for Africa Campaign this year.
