ADRA Calls For Disaster Preparedness Strategies

The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) has pleaded with different stakeholders to take lead in embracing strategies that can assist the country in disaster preparedness and response.

ADRA country director Dr. Dennis Matekenya, made the call on Tuesday at a media briefing in Lilongwe ahead of a National Emergency Response Conference (NERC) scheduled for this Thursday in Lilongwe.

Matekenya, added that the gathering will reflect on economic architecture that reduces the impact of natural resources and demonstrate effective resilience.

"We the national emergency conference will reflect on support systems in line with disaster preparedness and response," Matekenya added.

Research Manager for National Planning Commission Dr. Andrew Jamali, says the high level meeting will reflect on how to apply best practices in managing natural disasters.

"We need to create strategies to assist us on how to prepare and respond to disasters as we target to achieve a lower middle income economy by 2030," Jamali said.

The conference has been jointly organized by the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) and the National Planning Commission (NPC).
