MUST Vice Chancellor Professor, Address Malata, told Zodiak on Tuesday that as a science university, they need to be innovative and make a difference by urgently responding to the challenges that the country is facing.
Professor Malata said they have a responsibility to respond to the needs of the country.
“For instance, in the wake of covid 19, the university has developed testing equipment for students in campus among many interventions in responding to the pandemic,” said Professor Malata.
She has disclosed the university’s partnership with John Hopkins and other partners to study Corona virus with an intention to develop vaccine for the pandemic.
“As a science university, we have to make a difference. We hope we have the capacity to develop the Covid 19 vaccine,” she said.
Health activist, George Jobe, has described the move as encouraging.
“we want to commend the university for this step and innovation. We ask them to expedite the process. Who knows, we might be able to export the vaccine to other countries,” said Jobe.
Malawi government and partners are encouraging people to go for vaccination in an attempt to stop further spread of the pandemic.
