Guard Arrested at MUST Laboratory Construction

The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) security team has foiled a robbery and caught one private guard for allegedly being found in possession of construction materials at its purpose built state-of-art laboratory project.

The university's communications manager, James Mphande, says the incident happened last night and the rest of the suspects, currently on the run, bolted when they were ambushed.

Mphande has explained that the guards were engaged by a Chinese contractor who manages everything concerning the project.

"So after being tipped about the organized theft, the university security team organized itself to catch the suspects," he said.

While dismissing reports that some police officers were also involved in the alleged theft, Mphande says the arrested suspect was being interrogated to get more information.

He said "no police officer is involved but one guard has been caught with some materials recovered."

Meanwhile, Limbe police spokesperson, Aubrey Singanyama said he was not aware of the incident while and the Chinese contractor was not immediately available for a comment.
