NAYO Records 50 STIs Monthly

A local organization in Blantyre has complained that lack of quality access to information on sexual reproductive health among the youth is fueling cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for Nancholi Youth Organization (NAYO), Mathews Katete, says for instance, the organization’s health facility treats between 30 to 50 STIs every month, saying more needs to be done to support young people.

“We feel young people are lacking information on Sexual Reproductive Health. This is the reason we have organized various interventions to reach out to them to be informed,” said Katete.

Currently the organization is implementing gender, HIV/Aids and Sexual Reproductive Health initiatives to address challenges that the youth are experiencing.

Apart from these interventions, the organization is also promoting cervical cancer screening to provide an opportunity to rural women to be protected from the disease.

This comes when the disease is claiming a lot of lives of rural women in most African countries.
