The Local Authority Performance Assessment (LAPA) report released by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Professor Blessings Chinsinga in Lilongwe on Monday scored Mulanje district council at 76% beating all the district councils in the country.
CSO Secretary Moffat Kayembe believes there is room for the council to improve and perform beyond this and continue shining in all assessments.
“The council needs to be commended for such an achievement and we as CSOs are proud to be part of this winning council,” said Kayembe.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner for Mulanje Stallichi Mwambiwa says for performing well, the council expects to receive funds in excess of K600 million this year under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) project.
“In the 2020/2021 financial year, we constructed two Community Day Secondary Schools and a modern police unit under District Development Fund (DDF) and these were assessed by the independent assessor,” said Mwambiwa.
While Mulanje District Council emerged as the best performer, Nsanje district council anchored the table.
