Police in Neno have arrested a former Primary Education Advisor (PEA) Betino Mpapa aged 61-years-old for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a female child aged 16-years and impregnating her.

Neno police publicist Austin Kamwendo has confirmed the arrest on Tuesday evening, stating that the PEA adopted the child for support and later started seducing her into sexual acts by giving her money when his wife was not around and provided her with a cellphone for secret communication.

"Yes, it is true that we have arrested Mr. Mpapa on allegations that he has been sleeping with the minor since February of this year and this information we have got from the Social Welfare office," said Kamwendo.

Kamwendo further alleges that the child has revealed that she was defiled from February to April this year without protection, claims collaborated by a medical report from Neno district hospital which further shows the girl is pregnant.

According to the police, the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of having sexual intercourse with a female child contrary to section 138 of the Penal Code.

Mpapa hails from Donda village in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku in the district.
