Police in Neno district have today arrested a 28-year-old man, McFalen Kazembe, for alleged theft of money amounting to K4,500,000 belonging to a 25-year-old business woman, Esther Chimbiya.

Neno police publicist Austin Kamwendo says that the victim received the money yesterday from South Africa for business but to her surprise it went missing in her house which forced her to lodge a complaint at Neno police station.

Kamwendo says their investigation revealed that there was no house breaking but someone had used a duplicate key to open the door of the house.

"This led to the arrest of the suspect who had just been released from prison and upon interrogation he revealed that he connived with the victim's nephew who is on the run to commit the act," said Kamwendo.

The police have also recovered a brand new Lifan motorcycle and Tecno phone and money amounting to K1,103,750 from the suspect.

Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the fugitive accomplice are underway.

Kazembe hails from Litchowa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku and is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of theft.
