Agora Employee Arrested over Alleged Robbery in Thyolo

Police in Thyolo have arrested 29-year old Joseph Mwambene, assistant manager at Goliati Agora depot, following an alleged day-light robbery of K750, 000.

The district's deputy police spokesperson, Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti said the incident happened on Saturday morning when the suspected robber forced Mwambene to close the shop while threatening him with a pistol.

"At around 10 A.M, unknown person who was driving a motor vehicle, entered the shop on the pretext of buying some commodities. But after some minutes, he went to the manager, produced a pistol before demanding money while the guards were alert and other workers were busy delivering goods to other customers," she said.

Kashoti said after some time of resistance, the manager surrendered the money and the criminal allegedly ordered the suspect to escort him to his car parked along the road so that no one should know the happenings and he did.

She adds that after the suspected criminal had left the place, the suspect went back to the shop and reportedly stayed almost 30 minutes without informing his workmates including the security guard who was not aware of the incident.

Thyolo Police deputy police publicist has disclosed that the suspect is likely to be charged with theft by servant.

Mwambene hails from Nevio village, Traditional Authority Mwaulambia in Chitipa and will appear in court soon after police have concluded investigation.
