The National Planning Commission (NPC) has issued certificates of compliance to 12 political parties and two independent presidential hopefuls for the 2025 general elections.

These parties have aligned their manifestos with Malawi's development blueprint, the Malawi 2063.

According to NPC spokesperson Thom Khanje, all political parties are expected to comply with the law by May next year.

Failure to do so may result in disqualification from the upcoming elections. 

"It's our belief that all parties are aware of this requirement," Khanje stated.

However, some major parties have yet to comply. 

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has requested more time to comment, while the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has not responded to our questions. 

In contrast, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has expressed commitment to complying with the law, although no submission timeline was provided.

The new political parties law aims to ensure continuity of the country's developmental aspirations despite changes in administration.
