The Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has trained its club and shop attendants in basic accounting principles to make sure that their budgeting aligns with the necessary items.

EGENCO Training and Development Officer, Anneta Banda, told journalists in Blantyre on Friday that misalignment between the two leads to losses; hence, the training.

“We observed during our needs assessment that our club and shop attendants lacked skills in basic accounting principles. Since they are involved in issues of inventory, stock and budgeting, we decided to organize this training to make them aware of the principles.

“Without the skills, they budget for items that are not necessary. If the budgeting does not align, there are losses,” she said.

Managing director of Sycamore Consult Limited, a training consultant, Audrey Mwala, said the training “will also help the attendants to understand the financial positions of their company such as financial statements and cashflow.

“We were teaching them on how they can handle finances. We looked at introduction to accounting, stock management, auditing, budgeting and financial statement analysis.

The training involved nine attendants from all the EGENCO stations across the country.
