Traditional leaders in Ntcheu have expressed worry with cross border traders between Zambia and Malawi and how frequent the district uses uncharted routes.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Full Council Meeting Tuesday, Traditional Authority (T/A) Ganya asked authorities to swiftly intervene into the matter saying their are fears that these people are not screened for Covid-19.

"Most of the traders use unchartered routes hence creating fears of Covid-19. Authorities need to tighten security in all border posts to address the malpractice by such individuals who have money and not people’s health as their goal", he said.

While expressing ignorance on the matter, Ntcheu District, Director of Health and Social Services, Dr. Isaac Mbingwani said his office will make a quick follow up on the issue.

Answering on the concern that people are coming from other countries getting into the district without screening, Dr. Mbingwani disclosed that the district has already screened 132 people and quarantined nine as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus.

"Among those quarantined, four have been discharged after they tested negative," he said.
