Getrude Mutharika, Son, APM, Chisale, Mbilizi Bank Accounts Frozen
Former first lady Getrude Mutharika and her son Tadikira are under investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for accumulating wealth they need to account for.
We have it on authority that because of this, all bank accounts for mother and child have been frozen through a preservation order “to establish source of the funds”.
The former first lady and her son are thought to have been involved in dubious business ventures through which they made money that needs explaining.
“If we find that the funds were accumulated without question, we shall let go,” said a source close to the investigations.
Other than the two, former state president, Professor Peter Mutharika, his private bodyguard Norman Chisale and former deputy CEO for MRA, Roza Mbilizi have also had their bank accounts frozen in relation to other on-going investigations.
Our findings show that the probe relates to the alleged MRA cement-tax-evasion issue which Chisale and Mbilizi were earlier arrested for.
The freezing of the accounts follows a Financial Intelligence observation that some of the suspects were making suspect withdrawals from the said bank accounts.
A source at the Financial intelligence Bureau said one of Roza Mbilizi’s bank accounts holds over K140m and “she twice tried to make withdrawals last week?.
Asked for details of the investigation, ACB Director General Reyneck Matemba could neither confirm nor deny that the four are under investigations.
“I will not be able to comment on that for a very simple reason, those are operation matters of the bureau,” he said.
