Gender Minister to Name & Same Perpetrators of Sexual Harassment
Minister of gender, community development, and social welfare Dr. Patricia Kaliati says her ministry will start naming and shaming perpetrators of sexual harassment in Higher Education.
Various players gathered in Lilongwe on Monday to witness the launch of the first-ever Higher Education Model gender and anti-Sexual harassment policy.
The framework aims at ensuring that institutions are free from sexual violence and discrimination.
Dr. Kaliati is hopeful the framework will curb sexual harassment in higher learning institutions and warned that her ministry will name and shame perpetrators.
While emphasizing the need to address sexual and gender-based violence, United Nations Resident Coordinator Maria Jose Torres said there should be zero tolerance for perpetrators of gender-based violence.
Acting Chief Executive Officer for the National Council for Higher Education Dr. Ambulile Phiri is optimistic that the model will foster an inclusive and quality higher education.
To deal with specific issues in the higher education sector, the model includes guidelines on gender, staff, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence, as well as inclusive education and management of epidemics and pandemics.
