Ministry of Health Identifying Contractors for 900 Health Posts
Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda says authorities are in the process of identifying contractors to work on constructing 900 health posts across the country.
However, while conceding of inadequate infrastructure is hampering efforts of providing the citizenry with quality health services, Chiponda was upbeat the health posts will help Malawi to achieve the 2030 Universal Health Coverage target.
“Inadequate infrastructure remains crucial to an improved health service delivery in the country.
It is against this background that government intends to construct 900 health posts across the country which will come with two staff houses at each facility,” she said.
Minister Chiponda claims the process of identifying contractors for the project is at the procurement stage now.
Meanwhile, Community health ambassador, Maziko Matemba is banking hopes on the development of health strategies by the Ministry of Health for an improved quality health service in the country.
“Communities continue to walk long distances to access health services. We need to address such challenges so as the accessibility of such service must not be a burden to our citizens,” he said.
Last week Friday, health authorities at Manjawira health centre and Dzunje Dispensary in Ntcheu requested government to upgrade the facilities to a rural community hospital and health centre respectively owing to over increasing demand of people seeking medical services.
They argued that the development is making the two facilities fail to withstand pressure which minister Chiponda acknowledged by claiming it needs urgent intervention.
