Constituency & Ward Boundary Report Ready this Nov

The Malawi Electoral Commission-MEC says in November, it will submit to Parliament it’s final report on the review of constituency and ward boundaries.

MEC Spokesperson, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, says the commission is considering all suggestions and feedback received from electoral stakeholders.

“The commission is racing against time to finalize a report on the review of the constituency and ward boundaries. We are very sure of submitting the report in the November sitting of Parliament,” he said.

Political analyst, George Phiri hopes MEC report will be crucial in enhancing issues of accountability among elected leaders and not just increasing their number of representation.

“Issues of accountability remains key to development. I believe the report will be critical in promoting good governance,” he said.

MEC is proposing that during the 2025 elections, the number of constituencies should increased to 229 from the current 193 and while the wards should go up to 500 from 462.

But this is subject to Parliament’s approval
