Police Open Murder Case Over LL Death

The police in Lilongwe have opened a murder case and launched a manhunt for people suspected to have murdered a 37-year-old man who was found dead in a car near Gogo Jenala along the M1 in Lilongwe’s Area 15 yesterday.

The man, identified as Alan Wittika, was found lying in a pool of blood under the driver’s seat with deep cuts in the head.

He was an employee of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa.

Lingadzi Police Station spokesperson Salome Zgambo told Zodiak Online they are treating the matter as a murder case.

Said Zgambo: “The position in which the body was found shows that he was murdered. We suspect this happened between 6 and 7 am and that after the murder, the body was moved from the front seat to the back seat.”

Some people at the crime scene said the car had been parked there since morning.

An eye witness told us she saw a man leaving the car wearing a red top and white gloves.

“I was returning home after escorting my boss’s child to school and this car passed me coming from Bwandilo side heading towards Area 15. Then it stopped and turned, heading back.

“A man came out of the car wearing a red top and white gloves, he locked the doors and left the car there. He proceeded towards Area 15. Since he was at a distance, I could not make out his face.”

We also managed to speak to a man who said he has been working for the deceased as a house boy.

He told us his boss left home around 7 am in the morning to go to work.

There was a somber mood among people who had gathered at the scene as police officers force-opened the car and pulled out the dead body and took it into their vehicle.

A postmortem conducted at Kamuzu Central Hospital has revealed the death was due to severe loss of blood.

The late Wittika hailed from Liwonde Village Traditional Authority Kanduku Mwanza.

The social media is awash with condolence messages with most people describing him as a humble and sociable man.
