Plan International Malawi has handed over a vehicle to its partner, Girls Empowerment Network (GENET).

Making the donation on Wednesday at GENET head offices in Blantyre, Program Area Manager for Plan International Malawi in the south Christopher Katutu said having worked with GENET for over ten years, it was noted that the organization had mobility challenges hence donating one of its vehicles to them.

“At our organization, we have what we call organization development which goes together with capacity development to our partner organizations and by donating this vehicle, we are meeting such an obligation,” said Katutu.

He said Plan International Malawi though it exists physically in the four districts of Kasungu, Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Mulanje has been implementing different child protection projects in 24 districts with various partners.

“In fact 60-80% of our funds are managed by our partners and I’m proud to disclose here that currently we have over 20 partners across the country,” said Katutu.

And speaking after receiving the vehicle, GENET Executive Director Faith Phiri thanked Plan International Malawi for the donation saying it will help its officers to easily reach far to reach areas with girls’ rights messages.

Phiri also said there are many organizations that are protecting the rights of girls and women with different approaches but the country continues registering increased cases of violence against girls and women.

Said Phiri; “millions of donor money has been pumped in to eliminate violence against girls and women with minimal changes registered and I think we as NGOs need to coordinate our efforts in empowering both women and girls and that will help them survive GBV.”

GENET is implementing an 18+ ending child marriages and enhancing voices of civil society to end child marriages projects in Mulanje with support from Plan International Malawi.
