There is an outcry among students at Malawi College of Health Sciences (MCHS) following a management decision to introduce accommodation fee for students on campus and stopping provision of meals.

Students who spoke to Zodiak Online on condition of anonymity have described the decision as harsh, calling on government to intervene on the matter.

For instance, over 400 students at MCHS, Blantyre campus are bitter after management resolved to introduce a K15, 000 accommodation fee for each student every month.

The students are also angry for the college’s decision to stop providing meals at the college, meaning that students will fend for themselves.

“We ask management to minimize the accommodation fee to 10, 000 kwacha. Most of the students here come from poor families,” complained the students.

They also want government and development partners to provide loans to students pursuing Diploma in Nursing and Clinical Medicine, insisting that the K550 thousand tuition fee per year is exorbitant.

Authorities at the Blantyre campus refused to give interview when Zodiak Online visited the college for response on Monday afternoon.
