Angry Mob Damages Ligowe Police Unit
An angry mob has this morning vandalized Ligowe police unit in Neno when it was baying for the blood of two people suspected of having a hand in the death of a woman who died at Neno district hospital.
The woman, a mother of one child, died after a short stay in the hospital.
An eye witness has told Zodiak Online that the incident happened at Chikungulu and that a group village headman and another man were being accused of bewitching the woman through magic, which resulted in a commotion.
"The woman died yesterday and burial was scheduled to take place today, so the villagers wanted to kill the two so that they burry them together with the woman," he briefly told us.
The police have transferred the two accused persons from Ligowe police unit to an undisclosed safe place after using tear gas to disperse the angry mob.
The other man is only being identified as a Mr. Machemba.
Meanwhile, Neno police station spokesperson Austin Kamwendo has confirmed the incident but could not shed more light saying investigations are underway.
"Yes I can confirm to you that this has really happened but will give you more details after our investigations are over," said Kamwendo.
He further said that no arrests have been made to this far.
Meanwhile, reports still indicate that the mob is regrouping around the police post and that the situation is still tense.
