Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) Executive Director, Sylvester Namiwa, has asked authorities to intervene on the maintenance works near Nkhwakhazi bridge along Limbe-Thyolo-Muloza road, describing it as "a death trap."

This is the section at Mangunda trading centre in Thyolo where late last year, a contractor rehabilitated and it has not survived.

According to Namiwa, authorities need to check the work for fear of accidents.

Namiwa said, "we appreciate the devastating impact of the cyclone Freddy, but this is a shoddy work."

But Roads Authority spokesperson, Portia Kajanga, says she will comment later after assessing the place.

Reports indicate that there have been about three road accidents at the site after the rehabilitation last year.
