Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked the country’s Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima to use his executive powers and push the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and Roads Authority to resume construct Muloza-Chiringa road which stalled two years ago.

The road connects Mulanje and Phalombe districts.

CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa in a letter written to the Vice President dated 18th September, 2023 said the VP should tell Malawians why government terminated its contract with MA Kharaffi who was constructing the road and what happened to the resources earmarked for the project.

"Soon after the court sanctioned fresh presidential elections, Dr. Chilima went to Muloza in Mulanje and he announced that government had terminated its contract with MA Kharaffi and he said a new contractor would take over the project but to date there is no contractor on the site," said Namiwa.

He said this is the reason CDEDI has written the VP.

Spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President Pilirani Phiri said the office has received the letter and will be given to the Dr. for his attention.
