Various stakeholders in Thyolo on Thursday gathered at Nambala 1 ground in praying for the district.

This is in reaction to the increased criminal activities such as, murder, suicide, burglary and theft and gender-based violence that have been happening in the district for the past months.

And according to the police bi-annual security outlook, crime has risen by 48 percent from January to June this year.

The development has moved the stakeholders led by the district interfaith alliance to organize prayers aimed at seeking God's intervention.

Chairperson for the committee, pastor Lloyd Somela said what is happening in Thyolo is beyond police intervention, hence calling for prayers.

"We wanted to seek the face of God so that He can intervene to our situation," Rev. Somera said.

On his part, Thyolo police officer in-charge, Isaac Norman believes the prayers will go a long way in restoring the security in the district.

Chairperson for Thyolo business community, Martin Kavalo said security lapse has forced others to close their ventures after they were hit by robbers.

"This has greatly affected since many business persons are failing to repay the loans they obtained from various money lending institutions. I need to add that some of these killings are perpetrated by people who want instant riches from witch doctors," he alleged.

Earlier, members of the clergy, police, business community and others matched from Thyolo police to Nambala 1 ground.

Talking turns, members of the clergy petitioned God among others, seeking forgiveness for the blood that has been shed through various murder and suicide cases.
