Limbe police spokesperson, Aubrey Singanyama, says it has been reported that two weeks ago the woman burnt the child and today she also abandoned another before assaulting the hubby.

"She burnt the child two weeks ago, but unfortunately the matter was not reported to police. It is also suspected that she also assaulted her husband who ran away following the abuse. So, it is the fight that erupted today that prompted the concerned community members to report the matter to police," he said.

Meanwhile, Singanyama has indicated that the suspect will undergo a mental examination before taking her to court.

The wounded child and the husband have been treated as out-patients at Thyolo district hospital.
