Communities from Group Village Haedman Kwanjana Senior Chief Vumbwe in Thyolo North constituency have expressed optimism of improved development in the area following the decision by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to re-demarcate the area.

Group Village Headman Kwanjana whose real name is Michael Chisoni disclosed to Zodiak yesterday that among others the area do not have crucial social infrastructures such as schools, health centres and roads.

“Just imagine, learners have to travel a long distance to go Nguludi in Chiradzulu to access secondary school education just because we don’t have any secondary school in this area. Those seeking medical assistance are required to go to Goliati in Thyolo where there is a health centre, “said Kwanjana.

Meanwhile one of the sons of the area who is currently ministering in Pretoria, South Africa, apostle Williams Thumba has expressed interest to contest as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area on an independent ticket.

Thumba who once worked as journalist for Transworld Radio Malawi says his interest is to see the youths particularly young girls from the area who are getting married at a tender age succeed in their education.

“You see, most people who have been representing us at the national assembly have not been originally from this area and hence they did not have the interest and the welfare of the people from this area at heart. That is the reason you see us lacking some basic necessities such as safe drinking water and electricity”, said Thumba.

The area which MEC has re-demarcated to become Thyolo Mikolongwe Constituency was part of Thyolo North constituency covering areas such as Vumbwe ,Thunga and Goliati in the district.
