Escom Still Sourcing Materials for Reconstruction of Power Lines

The power utility body, Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) says re-construction of power lines that were damaged by Tropical Cyclone Freddy (TCF) early this year will commence once   importation of the materials is finalized.

Public relations manager, Kitty Chingota, has told Zodiak Online Tuesday the company is working on bringing the materials in the country as they are mostly imported.

Chingota said they have completed survey and determination for the construction of new overhead lines.

"The company is currently sourcing materials to start construction works for the lines," said Chingota.

Meanwhile, Chairperson for Nkhulambe Area Development Committee (ADC), whose area was extensively damaged, John Allan Bulaki, said the delay is negatively affecting people economically.

With one month remaining for the commencement of the rainy season, communities in the affected areas fear they will spend a year without electricity since the roads will be cut off.
