Health authorities at Neno district hospital says that they have not registered any further case of scabies that savaged 40 learners at Nkhande primary school in the area of Senior Chief Symon.

Neno DHO publicist Caroline Banda has told Zodiak Online today that "the situation is stable with no any other cases reported since Saturday".

She has attributed the cause of the scabies outbreak at Nkhande primary school to lack of hygiene practices by the learners who mostly play together and become vulnerable.

Meanwhile, the health office has intensified awareness campaigns to prevent further spread of the disease while the infected learners are still under treatment.

Some residents who Zodiak has spoken to this afternoon say they need the health department to put in place permanent solutions to the outbreak.

For example, Chipiliro Sambo says he needs the hospital in collaboration with the education sector to provide WASH materials in all primary schools apart from just raising awareness on the prevention of the disease.

Similarly, Ivy Banda is of the view that the school management should put aside resources to procure sanitary materials.
