National Bank of Malawi has committed K50 million towards the 2025 Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE), scheduled for tomorrow Thursday and Friday at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, the annual expo brings together local and international stakeholders to showcase Malawi’s tourism potential and foster strategic business connections.
Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony, the Bank’s Regional Manager for the Centre and North Shadreck Malenga reiterated the institution’s dedication to supporting the country’s tourism through corporate social responsibility.
"As a bank, we believe in the power of tourism to drive economic growth and position Malawi on the global map," said Malenga. "The expo is a strategic platform for exhibitors to engage with potential buyers and bookers of tourism products. We are proud to be part of this initiative."
Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule expressed gratitude for the bank’s continued partnership but said that more resources are still needed to ensure the success of the event.
"We appreciate the National Bank’s unwavering support," said Kamtukule. "However, organizing an international event of this magnitude requires substantial resources, and we continue to call on other partners to come forward and support us."
This year’s expo is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including tour operators, hoteliers, international buyers, and government officials, all aiming to boost Malawi’s visibility as a preferred travel destination.
