Barely days after floods left hundreds homeless in some parts of the country, Muslim World League through its relief arm, International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development says will double its annual monetary allocation towards humanitarian response.
The organization's Deputy Regional Director, Sheikh Mossa Mkhize told Zodiak Online today in Ntcheu that increasing the allocation is critical to address food deficit when disasters struck.

"We commit ourselves to invest more in our interventions thereby doubling our one billion Kwacha investment this year towards humanitarian response," said Mkhize.

He said this when the organization made available relief maize flour to flood survivors in the district.

A flood survivor, Fanny Mlambiza of Mtalimanja village, Traditional Authority Masasa described the response as timely owing to impact of floods to affected families in the area.

In the meantime, Vice President Everton Chimulirenji who is also Minister Responsible for Disaster Management Affairs has appealed to all district councils to swiftly report disasters.

Chimulirenji say this helps government to timely respond.

Over 200 families in Ntcheu were affected by floods last week and has left 65 of them homeless and three people injured.

It follows flooding of Bwanje River which wreck havoc in villages surrounding Bwanje and Phanga respectively.
