Phalombe Youth Arms Organization (PYAO) says lack of skills among youths to track implementation of development initiatives is affecting smooth implementation of development.

The organization’s Executive Director, Vincent Makuluni Thom, has told Zodiak Online on Thursday that youth are key in the implementation of development programs; thereby, need to take a lead in tracking projects.

Thom says the trend is hampering smooth implementation of various projects in the district as many youths do not have knowledge on budget and policy process.

He said: "We are equipping youths on how they can track implementation of development projects using score card in their areas."

He was speaking when the organization equipped youths who are expected to work hand in hand with Area Development Committees (ADC) in four constituencies.

One of the participants, Skeva Ngongonda, who is also Secretary for Nkhulambe Youth Network, says most youths lack knowledge to take part in tracking development programs.

Ngongonda added that with skills which he has acquired, many youth will actively take part in development such as tracking the implementation process.

PYAO is implementing a three-month project dubbed Leveraging Positive Actions Towards Improved Youth Access Participation in Budget and Policy Process.
