Authorities in Mulanje have secured a safe home for five children and three grannies that ran away from a mob two weeks ago that nearly took their lives on accusations that they were practicing witchcraft.

Amid escalating incidents of violence in the country, the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) has started implementing a national peace advocacy project.

An international religious organization, Christian Aid, has committed itself to financially support implementation of activities aimed at addressing child prostitution at Muloza in Mulanje district.

Amid increasing witchcraft related attacks on children and grannies in Mulanje district, on Thursday police in the district had nine minors aged between 8 and 14 at its victim support unit who escaped from mob justice.

Lack of cross border collaboration between Mulanje in Malawi and Villa-Milanje in Mozambique is said to be negatively affecting the fight against the spread of coronavirus in Mulanje.

Authorities at Muloza immigration office in Mulanje have disclosed that existing porous borders are threats to Malawi’s security and make the country lose revenue through customs duty evasion.

The District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) in Mulanje says five boys who are victims of last week’s Duswa witchcraft accusations are destitute as they have no food and cloths.

There was drama at a full council meeting in Mulanje on Tuesday when Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilors and parliamentarians sent two Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials out of the meeting, saying council meetings are not for political party representatives.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has rescinded the transfer of District Commissioner Dr. Medson Matchaya to Thyolo and instead the ministry has sent him to Nsanje to replace Douglas Moffat who has now been transferred to Thyolo.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Lingson Belekanyama says it will be a grave failure and waste of public resources to ignore projects that are expected to transform lives of citizens once completed.
