Presidential Aspirant Calls For Unity and Giving

Jani Kasunda,  who is expected to contest in the 2030 Presidential elections has urged Malawians to use the festive season as a time to reflect on the socio-economic challenges the country continues to face.

Speaking to Zodiak Online from China, Kasunda said while the festive period is meant for celebration and unity it should also serve as a moment to confront pressing issues such as hunger.

“We are experiencing food shortages. As stipulated in the 2025 Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Report over four million people are facing acute hunger with thousands at risk of extreme food insecurity,” he said.

Kasunda has also called on Malawians to embrace the spirit of sharing by reaching out to those in need of food and other basic necessities during the festive season.

Meanwhile the presidential aspirant has described 2025 as an unfortunate year citing a rise in murder cases in some parts of the country as well as fatal road accidents.

He further expressed concern over high food inflation towards the end of the year saying it placed a heavy burden on Malawians with many failing to afford basic commodities such as sugar salt and soap.
