Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has urged anti-corruption agencies to approach him directly for names of individuals involved in corruption within government.
Speaking at Mulanje Boma Wednesday after a campaign trail, Dr. Usi said his intention was not to “name and shame,” but to ensure proper prosecution of involved public officers for the good of the country.
“If I have names of corrupt people in government, I want them to be investigated and prosecuted. My goal is not embarrassment, but justice,” he said.
This comes after the Malawi Congress Party challenged Usi to provide evidence of his wave of allegations.
While addressing supporters at Chitakale in the same district, the Vice President endorsed himself as a just presidential candidate, observing that many Malawians are frustrated because successive governments have failed to improve their lives.
“People must vote with conscience and choose leaders who have love and integrity,” he urged.
In a candid moment, Dr. Usi asked the crowd: “Have I ever lied to you? Did I ever come pretending I wanted the presidency to deceive you?”
He promised that if his party, Odya Zake Alibe Mulandu (OZAM), wins the September 16 election, his government will root out corruption.
Speaking earlier at Chigumula in Blantyre, he claimed that there was an assassination plot.
Meanwhile, Dr. Usi dismissed circulating reports claiming he has resigned as Vice President. At Luchenza in Thyolo, he described the letter as political propaganda.
“I don’t know which devil has written that letter. I have not resigned whatsoever,” told Zodiak in an interview.
