Malawi Law Society President, Davis Njobvu, has told Zodiak Online that the appointment of an Acting Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau requires a vigorous vetting process rather than simply naming someone to the position.
This follows the recent appointment of Gabriel Chembezi as the Acting Director General of the ACB by President Arthur Peter Mutharika
Njobvu said that the appointment raises questions, as according to the law, there was supposed to be a vetting process before anyone could occupy the position.
"You cannot simply appoint someone from somewhere to occupy the position without following the vetting process," he said.
Commenting on the same, Michael Kaiyatsa, who is the chairperson for the National Anti Corruption Alliance, emphasized the importance of complying with the law when appointing personnel in government ministries and departments.
On October 31, the office of the Chief Secretary announced the appointment of Gabriel Chembezi as the Acting Director General of the ACB, replacing Hillary Chilomba, who was also serving in an interim capacity.
