National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has set aside 200 million to support various development initiatives being implemented by all districts and town councils of the country.
The bank's head of corporate banking, Williams Chatsala, has told Zodiak that among the areas of development initiatives the bank is supporting are education, health, and environmental conservation, among others.
He made the remarks on Friday when the bank donated 84 desks valued at 15 million Kwacha at Namitambo primary school in the district in a bid to ease shortages of desk at the institution.
“Out of the 200 Million Kwacha, we have donated 84 desks at Namitambo primary school valued at K84 million after we were approached by Chiradzulu, District Council. We are also intending to support other district councils in other areas of development of their choice,“ said Chatsala.
Headteacher for the school, Charles Majawa said inadequate desks at the school which is an examination center for Namitambo Zone in the district forced learners to be sitting on the floor especially when writing their examinations thereby greatly compromising their performance.
District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere hailed the bank for the kind gesture, saying it will go a long way in facilitating a good learning environment for learners in the district.
