Thyolo Businessman Offers Free Maize Milling in Celebration of Mutharika’s Victory

As Malawians celebrate the swearing-in of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, a Thyolo businessman has joined the jubilation by giving back to his community in a unique way.

Felix Chome, a local maize mill owner, offered free maize milling services across all his mills on Friday, October 3,2025.

Chome explained that the gesture was his way of thanking God for Mutharika’s electoral victory.

“I have done this as part of giving thanks to God for the win. To me, Mutharika’s victory is a sign of food security for Malawians, and that is why people should have their maize milled for free so they may have food as the new leader assumes office,” said Chome.

Residents flocked to the mills in large numbers at Goliati, Mikolongwe and Chidothe areas to take advantage of the free service, with women forming the majority of those who came.

Mary Frank, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her excitement: “We are very happy. This has helped us a lot, and we thank him for his kindness.”

Another woman, Lucy Nanseleza, echoed the sentiment: “This is a blessing to us. We are grateful and we celebrate together with our leader.”

Chome retired from active politics after serving as Member of Parliament for the area during the UDF era. Mutharika once served as the Parliamentarian for the area, Thyolo East.
