Thyolo Man Dies After Drinking Beer on an Empty Stomach

A 35-year-old man from Thyolo has died after consuming excessive amounts of beer on an empty stomach.

The deceased has been identified as Stanford Kashuga, from Likwakwanda Village, Traditional Authority Nchiramwera in Thyolo.

According to police, the incident occurred on the evening of August 14, 2025, when Kashuga left home around 6:00 PM to visit a local drinking joint where kachasu beer is brewed.

“He did not return home that night, and the following morning his body was found lying in a nearby garden,” said Thyolo Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Rabecca Kashoti.

A post-mortem examination from Thyolo District Hospital, confirmed that the cause of death was excessive alcohol intoxication, secondary to hypoglycemia.

“We can confirm that there is no suspicion of foul play in this case,” added Kashoti.
