Two armed robbers Dan Khumbo Amos, 30, and Aubrey Yousuf, 43, have been sentenced to 14 years each yesterday for robbing at gun point a business woman of K2.6 million at Bvumbwe in Thyolo.
State prosecutor Sub Inspector Ezekiel Sitima, said in court that in February, 2024, four men who were driving a red Mazda Demio, registration number BY6722 trailed the victim and attacked her at the gate of her house.
Sub-Inspector Sitima said the quartet who was also armed with panga knives ordered the security guard at the victim's house to close the gate; and one of them pulled out a revolver whilst forcing the woman to surrender the cash.
He said after the incident, the matter was reported to Limbe police who launched the investigation which led to the arrest of Amos and Yousuf whom the victim identified.
However, when they appeared before Midima Senior Resident Magistrate Lawrence Mchilima, the convicts pleaded not guilty to the charge, forcing the state to parade five witnesses to secure the conviction.
In mitigation, the duo prayed for a lighter sentence citing that they are both first offenders, but the state asked for a deterrent sentences.
Dan Khumbo Amos hails from Kandaya village, Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo, while Aubrey Yousuf comes from Chambuluka village, Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka.
Meanwhile, Limbe police deputy spokesperson Chibisa Mulimbika says the police recovered the gun and are hunting for the remaining two suspects who are currently at large.
