The Ministry of Transport and Public Works says it is finalizing processes to resume passenger train services to Lilongwe years after an indefinite halt.
Minister responsible, Jacob Hara says the Ministry has been encountering a few problems including logistical challenges which it is currently ironing out for the smooth resumption of the services.
He, however, says passenger train services remain a concession deal with much focus going to cargo transport.
"Usually cargo is the deal, but here is the government that is trying to revamp the passenger train services and we will achieve it so as to assist Malawians by providing more options in as far as transportation is concerned," Hara said.
"Once we complete the processes you will see the train resume in Lilongwe," added Hara.
A Social Commentator, Isaac Cheke Ziba believes this will reduce the costs of transportation Malawians incur when traveling.
He then calls for more action the continues promises on the matter.
"We need action than just rhetoric. This is a very good move and we hope to have the train running to the central region soon as they are saying," said Ziba
