The Anti-Corruption Bureau ACB says all is set for the controversial judge’s bribery case involving Dr. Thom Mpinganjira to proceed in court on 30th June, 2020.

ACB’s Director General Reyneck Matemba says his institution has completed their investigations on the allegations that business tycoon Thom Mpinganjira attempted to bribe the six Constitutional Court Judges who were presiding over the 21st May 2019 Presidential elections case.

Matemba adds that with the gravity of the case ACB has decided to transfer the matter from the Chief Resident Magistrate Court to the High Court, where actual date for trial will be communicated thereafter.

“What is going to happen on the 30th of June is not trial as such, because we registered the case in the Chief Resident Magistrate Court. We made a decision that the case should be tried in the High Court. So on this day we are going to commit the case in the High Court from the lower court,” clarified Matemba.

Mpinganjira was arrested in January 2020 and was released on bail by a Magistrate Benny Chitsakamile unconditionally following an application by the defence lawyers Patrice Nkhono and Alex Pangano Bonongwe.

The defense lawyers are yet to react to the latest development.
