Financial Challenges Hit LUANAR Students
A group of 7 students from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) are stranded due to lack of basic necessities to keep them pursuing their studies at the University.
The students told Zodiak that they are facing hard times to sustain themselves on campus due to lack of food, money for accommodation and materials to use for their studies.
Gift Benito, Bachelor of Science in Food Technology student, says he has challenges to access food, rentals and learning materials to the extent that he withdrew from the university at first year in order to find some pieces of work to get the starter pack as he resumes his academics at the institution.
“I can’t manage to find support to help me pursue my studies at the college like accommodation, food and stationery. This resulted in me to withdraw my place. Benito complained.
Another student, Richard Bwandika, says he has no one to support his academics as he lost both parents some time back such that his guardians cannot afford to provide him with basic needs as required to the students of higher learning institutions.
Bwandika told Zodiak that he once decided to drop out of school only to be forced not to upon looking at his relatives who are suffering due to lack of support.
“Should I get support from well-wishers, it means that my dream to complete studies will be fulfilled, not only that but also I will support other upcoming students who will be struggling to continue their studies,” Bwandika says.
Meanwhile, the students have called upon well-wishers and charitable organizations to rescue them, insisting that the situation has reached an extent of withdrawing from the institution.
The students have told us that they had visited some well-wishers and some organization to save them from the situation but to no avail.
