Former Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), Collin Zamba, has been charged with abuse of office contrary to Section 95(3) of the Penal Code.
National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo confirmed the development to Zodiak Online on Thursday morning, but indicated that full details of the charge will be presented in court.
He added that Zamba is expected to appear in court on Thursday afternoon once investigators complete the necessary paperwork.
“A caution statement will be recorded later this morning, after which she will be taken to court to be formally charged,” Chimtembo said.
Zamba was arrested on Wednesday at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) as she prepared to travel to Geneva, Switzerland, for her child’s graduation ceremony. She spent the night in police custody at Kanengo Police Station.
Speaking to Zodiak Online on Tuesday afternoon, Zamba’s lawyer, Syvester Ayuba James, said his client remained in good spirits despite the arrest.
Former President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Zamba as Secretary to the President and Cabinet in June 2022. Prior to that, she headed the Presidential Delivery Unit and served as Chakwera’s Chief Advisor on Sustainable Development following her appointment in October 2021.
