Access Communications Limited (ACCESS) has launched a new mobile network and ICT firm, Zero2.
Introducing the new telecommunications and Internet company in Blantyre on Thursday, 21 December 2023, Zero2 managing director, Faizal Okhai, described the brand as a new dawn of telecommunications in Malawi.
“As part of the launch, Zero2 will offer unlimited free on-net calls for one year to the special 0222 gold numbers that we are connecting today (Thursday), plus unlimited basic internet for one year and K500 start-up airtime,” said Okhai.
He said the brand has come in to support Malawians achieve their aspirations of achieving greater potential in their lives. “That is why our motto is called Keep Rising because we realise that every Malawian has great aspiration for their future and the future of those people they love ''.
Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, said in an interview after the launch, that this links well with government aspirations to provide access and affordable internet to the Malawian people.
“We are going digital, as a country and one of the challenges that people face, especially people in rural areas, is the connectivity to affordable and reliable networks. This is why as a government we are creating an environment where players can come in to invest and provide better services to our people.”
Kunkuyu observed that with better access to the internet, people will enjoy and have access to the internet for their health, agriculture, medical and educational needs at ease. This government says, will spur socio-economic growth.
ACCESS Limited has invested K15 billion for new state of the art GSM and 4G LTE network infrastructure while continuing to invest in the network for a wider network coverage.
Currently, Zero2 has presence in the country’s four major cities of Mzuzu, Lilongwe Blantyre and Zomba and some selected districts including; Thyolo, Mulanje, Mwanza, Zomba, Liwonde, Balaka, Mangochi and Salima riding on the footprint of ACCESS 2010 limited.
