Geanalflo Schools Urge Parental Support

Geanalflo Executive Schools has called on parents and guardians to actively support their children’s education, stressing that academic success requires collaboration between teachers, learners, and families.

Speaking during an awards ceremony honoring ten outstanding Standard 8 learners in the Chimutu Zone, Director Alfred Jiya emphasized that parental involvement is crucial. The learners were recognized for excelling in three major mock examinations — the Lilongwe City mocks, Chimutu Zone mocks, and the Alfred Jiya Academic Award of Excellence.

“It pains me to see children idle after school, some engaging in smoking and drinking. If parents dedicate time to help with schoolwork and revision, these children can excel academically,” Jiya said.

He explained that the awards initiative is designed to motivate learners ahead of the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations (PSLCE) and help them secure places in national secondary schools. Jiya noted that the program was introduced after observing poor performance in Lilongwe District, with the aim of fostering healthy competition among schools.

This year’s pilot phase involved four schools: Mankhwala, Mvama, Geanalflo Executive Schools, and Mdala Kidz Academy. Jiya confirmed that more high-performing schools will be included next year to intensify competition and encourage learners to study harder.

Chimutu Zone Quality Assurance Officer Elija Karonga echoed the call for collaboration, saying partnerships between private and public schools can raise education standards.

“This is an opportunity for learners to set goals and focus on their aspirations. Excellence comes from hard work, dedication, and focus,” Karonga said.

The overall best-performing learner, Given Chinzukuzuku, attributed his success to consistent revision and strong parental support.

“My father reviews my books daily and helps me with challenges. I also study past exam papers from friends. My motivation comes from my family’s struggles. I want to excel in the PSLCE to secure a bursary since my father cannot afford secondary and tertiary education,” he explained.

Chinzukuzuku remains determined to perform well in the upcoming Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) examinations scheduled for June 8–10, aiming to rank among the nation’s best.
